Flu Precautions

With the Flu season underway, its time to remind ourselves of some sensible precautions about trying to stay healthy. Churches and schools have been identified as some of the most likely places to spread or contract the cold or flu virus. The flu strain H1N1 (swine flu) has caused even greater than usual concern among our parishioners, but with some simple common sense decisions, we can help mitigate many of those concerns. First of all, if you are sick, STAY HOME. All persons who are sick are automatically granted a dispensation from attending Sunday Mass. If you feel you may be getting ill (have symptoms, but not sure whether you have the flu) please do these few simple things that will help prevent the spread of germs:

1) upon entering Church, do not dip your hand in the holy water vessels at the doorways; 2) please cough/sneeze into a handkerchief, or piece of your own clothing, such as a shirt sleeve (you’ll spread less germs than coughing into your hands); 3) politely excuse yourself from shaking hands at the sign of peace; and 4) do not drink from the Communion Cup. (The alternate practice of dipping the host into the Communion Cup called “intinction” is not allowed in the United States.)

Monthly Calendar
The monthly calendar is published as part of the Mark It! Newsletter. It includes ongoing events that occur regularly and also lists special or ad hoc events. Please also check the weekly calendar in the bulletin as events can change. Or feel free to call the parish office at 816-373-2600 if you have questions about any events.

The St. Mark Evangelist Newsletter
The St. Mark Evangelist is a monthly newsletter mailed to every registered family. This newsletter offers a more detailed look at ministry programs and events, featuring articles and photographs, plus a calendar of events for the upcoming month. Some issues carry a theme - for instance, February is Family Life Month and December generally focuses on a Christmas message. Most issues provide a wide variety of information ranging from a grief series, building update, missions, marriage preparation, preschool and much more!
